Im about to buy either a Nikon D40, D40x, D60 and a Nikon SB400 flash. Those cameras looks nice and not to big and also have got good reviews. The price im gonna spend on the hole kit is around 1000 dollar (including the camera).

But heres my problem; i dont have any idea what lenses to buy..

What i want is;
AF and VR
I want to take Landscape pictures (wide angel)
General photos indoor and outdoor

You guys have any suggestions and ideas what to buy cus i cant find anything that fits, i know the 18-55mm lens comes along when u buy d40 but theres no VR and AF function in that lens right?

I always give the same advice to people buying lenses, "buy the very best you can afford, spend the bulk of your budget on the lens" you can upgrade the camera later even consider a second hand body. "the camera is only a box". have a look at this one about $600.00 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR AF-S DX Nikkor Lens, Advantages, has a good range, ED glass, Vibration reduction, Auto Focus. Disadvantages, a bit slow f5.6, G lens therefore no aperture ring, DX (will be no use if you go to full frame format later). hope that is useful!

i recommend the 17-55 2.8
its about 1000 used but will amaze you.
