Skippers and a Butterfly

2008.08.18
Skipper, a member of the butterfly family. It moves very quickly, and it was really difficult for me to get a clear photo.

I'm actually not sure if this is the same one, as it was taken a day apart from the previous one.

Bright yellow skipper, just after the rain.

Yellow swallowtail butterfly. I felt sorry for this beautiful butterfly, suffering such extensive damage to its wing. However, it doesn't seem to be holding it back - I've seen this same butterfly for several days now.

At least with this shot, you can't see the damage as easily.

Leighann I also love the last one. Lantana has always been one of my favorite flowers, and the detail on the butterfly's antennae and legs are wonderful.

gderuiter I thought skippers are butterflies. They are listed in my butterfly guide books as such. Are they really in a different category?

mowestlan What a great set! I feel so badly about the b'fly's wing and wonder what caused the damage.
