On Sep 17, 2008, Dr. Ram Baran Yadav, the First President of the Federal Democratic Republic Of Nepal met the team of Nepal Transport workers union ( NETWON ) under the leadership of union president , Bro Ajay Kumar Rai.Bro Sitaram Khatri senior vp , Bro Dharama Bhandari Gen. Sec , Bro Chandra Dhakal Gen. Sec and other senior leaders were also at that time form the union. Dr. Yadav was elected the First President 4 months ago by Constituent Assembly Members, ending the 240-year old monarchy in the nation after it was turned into a federal republic state from a monarchic state.
During the meeting with the transport workers' union, His Excellency expressed his commitment that he would first act for the unity and integrity of the nation. He also said that he would provide necessary support to the Constituent Assembly in making the new constitution. On the occasion, he said that the new constitution must incorporate workers' rights and interests. "At present" he said, "nation is passing through transition, taking turns through the sharp bend. In this situation, everyone should help to preserve the unity and integrity of the nation". Discussing about his own childhood and previous political life, he said that he was greatly inspired by B P Koirala, the first elected Prime Minister of Nepal to begin politics for Nepalese people.
During the meeting, Ajay Kumar Rai, the National president of the union informed the President about the existing difficulties of workers. On the occasion, Mr. Rai also requested the President to take necessary initiation to insert workers issues in the new constitution.
