Here's another try at this grim subject. I was aiming to fix my lighting, and I think it's better than the first one. I was also trying to get the hand more in a first person POV -- but now the razor isn't very clear. I couldn't figure out how to light the razor with my hand there and the camera in the way . . . Anyway, I've moved on to cellos now. I think I like the original shot better . . . (see Oct 18) Please, don't try this! This was the result of brainstorming after my homework assignments of fear, isolation, narrative, and story telling using hands. I've lost people to suicide. It's serious, selfish, and tragic. Don't try this at home . . .

After homework assignments on fear, isolation, narrative, and using just hands to tell a story, this image came to mind. It is NOT real (but I hope it looks it). Please, don't do this for real! I wanted to try chocolate sauce on B&W and see how real it looks. The razor was specifically blunted for this project.

Shooting with Charles, Duke Carillon, and M5 Homework

This is a VERY mixed set of pictures. Many thanks to Charles for our shooting excursion yesterday! And thanks for letting me try some of your lenses! I really enjoyed our afternoon together. :) And many thanks to Sam Hammond, the Duke University Carillonneur for allowing Charles and me to see the carillon and take photographs! It was a highlight of this semester. We went to Duke Chapel and then discovered a fenced-in area pouring out condensation that looked like smoke. On the pipes there was ice, and underneath there was water -- three states of water all in one place. Here are some of the photos from our trip plus my evening shooting session with a model. I was working on difficult lighting situations fo PH108 and storytelling using hands, shoes, or chairs for PH115. No harm was done to freshmen or others in the shooting of the last photo; it is completely faked. We couldn't stop laughing; although the subject is extremely serious, our time together setting this up was anything but serious. We were all a bit surprised at just how creepy the results are.
