Boys and men

Jamie was afraid of his grandfather until he was about 1.5 –probably because of his moustache - and than from one day to the other, they began to feel closer –inspite of 67 years of difference-, to such a distant generation… I think he appreciates Jamie accepting him for himself, without an effort to change him, as noone has ever done before, not even his own grown children. He is a shy man, does not talk much about his feelings… but I see behind that smile that he is just an antique little boy who`s close to burst with proud to have Jamie… maybe just because genes skip generations, they say. I wish the other granddad could have experienced that too…

Ghost city

I like these peaceful days in cities between christmas and new year… when the shopping madness is over and people prefer to stay back home with their loved ones. Empty and quiet streets… one can hear and even see only thoughts and wishes are flittering free like ghosts.

Illusion

I used to have that perfect picture in my mind of the lionfish. I was hunting this amazing creature of the sea a decade long with my camera, taken hundreds of shots – never satisfying - with dozen of different lenses… tried at day and night… I often spent an entire dive up to 1.5 h just chasing the same fish until we both got tired and frustrated or just simply out of air… And than one day, just recently when drifting in a strong current I saw my fish… hovering in the blue and looking at me… I knew I had the chance for only one single shot , set my cam at random and klick… And that was it. I`ve got the picture I had always in my mind. The sun, exposure, eye contact , the opened wings, lightning… just the way I wanted. But having it feels somehow so strange… like I`d have lost something… I`ll never chase the lionfish again, because I know I won`t be able to make a better shot than this one. I miss the struggling, the hunting. Because it is that stirring journey that matters in the end. A goal is not always meant to be reached… it mainly serves as something to aim at. But maybe, reaching a point is the starting point to another. I hope. So, I have it… and the best I can do is to give it to you. Wish you a Merry Christmas :-)
