Super Tents

2008.07.07

These are the Super Tents at the University of La Verne in the town I grew up in. On the other side of these tents is the University's football field and directly across the street from the football field is my grandfather's house. My sister and I used to climb the tree in their front yard and watch the Leopards play. I've seen these tents for as long as I can remember. When I fly over La Verne, I can always spot the tents from the air and then I can see my grandpa's house!

When I was growing up, my Tia Christina was a counselor at ULV and during the summer she would sometimes take my sister and I to work with her. We would hang out in the tents which had a lounge and a snack bar and a gym, as well as her office in the student center. We saw basketball games there and plays and pretended we were gymnasts. They also had some programs for kids where we could make crafts and go on field trips. We were pretty lucky to live so close to so much of our family.

From the Daily Bulletin...
"Imagine four giant upside-down snowcones and you have the University of La Verne's Sports Science and Athletics Pavilion, popularly known as the "Super Tents." Erected in 1973, the Pavilion is made of Teflon-coated fabric. It's "the first permanent tensioned-membrane structure in the world," according to the university."
